Back to Healthcare Reform
Had the Connecticut Health Insurance Reform not been adopted then by the year 2019 the number of uninsured Americans would have grown by at least 10 percent across the board. Uncompensated health care would be up to a whopping 90 percent and businesses in more than 54 percent of states would see their premiums go up by at least 50 percent. This would leave more families and business either uninsured or fighting the extreme health cost. Government would be bearing much of this burden.
Under the Healthcare Reform in Connecticut:
There will be no lifetime limits placed on policies. Annual limits will be restricted. Health companies cannot arbitrarily drop coverage. High risk people can now get insurance. People will now get free preventive care to encourage wellness. It will also support early retirement for workers.
Lowers premiums will be obtained by lowering overpayments. It also lowers the cost of prescription drug spending by cutting the doughnut gap in Medicare part d plans in half. It would also cover preventive care and health screenings as well as wellness visits.
Tax credits could be made available to make premiums for group plans more affordable, small businesses would be exempt from employer responsibility provisions.
State budgets would be relieved from the rising cost of health care by reducing uncompensated care as more uninsured individuals begin to receive insurance.
All of the cost of uncompensated medical care gets passed on to families in the form of taxes and is added to that all of the money spent on co pays, premiums and deductibles. With the Connecticut Health Insurance Reform, 242,000 families could be eligible for premium credits and the money savings continue.
This will give people of variety of choices when it comes to health care especially in times of need such as loss of job, change a job, getting sick or moving. It will provide more long term and community based health care for people over the age of 65.
Better health care is going to be the goal, through improved care coordination and having more primary care physicians' available. Incentive bonuses will also be offered to primary care doctors. Less paperwork to do will enable more doctor-patient time and better all around health care. Connecticut and other states await the improvement in health insurance.
